"So where's all this change, Obama?"

Not to continue on the political tip, because there are much better sites for that, but I have to say that I really love the guys at 23/6. I'm going to have to cast my vote for "Where's all the new jobs? Mine still sucks."

Although I really do miss being smarter than the President.

"It's a beautiful day."

"America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations."

Happy Obama Day to you!

Hot stuff.

Umm, can I just say that President-Elect has a hot bod? Good. Lord. I don't care which way you vote or swing- the evidence is RIGHT THERE. The man has a six pack! This is a presidential first for America, to be sure. I know this isn't very intelligent- but blogging when you're sick is hard.... LIKE BARACK OBAMA'S BODY. (See what I did there?)

Cannot wait for 01/20/09. Paaaaartaaaay!

I don't mean to cop out and make this post totally devoid of any value you couldn't find on another and waaaay more popular blog.  But I saw these pics this morning, I just had to include them on what is rapidly becoming a Culture According to Carly Scrapbook.  It's President-Elect when he was young and possibly childish (but most likely not, because he's always been perfect.  You hear that Fox News?  ALWAYS.).

Here, he is saying "Hmm, what will I be doing in the future?  I could do a jazz album or I could fix the world.  Or I could do a jazz album WHILE fixing the world.  Yeah, I'll do that."

Here, he is giving his best bedroom eyes.  "What's up, girl, I'm Barack Obama.  I'm going to run for president against John McCain in 2008 and kick some ass while doing it.  Yeah, THAT John McCain.  The white dude. Now come ovah here baby and let me show you my Lincoln Bedroom..."

"If I lean against this wall with my hat tilted like this I can look mysterious yet approachable at the same time.  I am Obama, I don't even need to speak to get the ladies.  What up."

I kind of like this look for him.  Very sexy.

Why do I have a feeling that he's just going to be the COOLEST guy to ever sit in the Oval Office?  I've got chills. :)

Cali freedom?

Politics has been banned from the dinner table at my grandparents' home.  Only because usually it starts with just an innocent conversation-starter and ends with my grandpa slamming his fist down and my mother saying "Why do we have to talk about this?" and my grandma rolling her eyes with me.  I should tell you that my grandma, a long time teacher, is a democrat while my grandfather... is not.  He served his country and he's lived through enough for me to know that he is entitled to his opinions (especially having paid taxes for over 2x longer then I've been alive).

Which is why I cautiously brought up Prop 8 last night over chicken orzo.

My grandparents had voted early because they were going to be off the grid visiting my aunt and uncle down in Texas so they still hadn't even seen all the results from Ohio and since 8 was a California issue, they had never even heard of it.

Careful not to inject my political views, I explained that it meant gay men and women were no longer able to be married.

"Where they ever?" my grandpa asked, inquisitively.

"Well yeah.  And then some people didn't like that and brought the issue back to the ballot."

"Oh."  He was quiet.  My grandma could tell that he was still working this out in his head and explained what she knew about it.

"They were allowed to and then some conservatives thought it wasn't right so they brought a proposition to amend the previous decision," she told him.

He thought about it a little more and then said, "Well that's just not right.  They gave them something, freedom, and then just took it away.  That's just not right."  And a simpler explanation I couldn't have asked for.

That's exactly what happened.  I read comments on one of my favorite politiblogs discussing this issue, one of them saying "we might as well have turned the hoses and dogs on the Castro." Once again, there is a second class in this country.  And it's just not right.

I have a sweatshirt from Hollister (stop laughing, it's the only thing I own from there).  It says "Cali Freedom" embroidered on the back.  I liked it because that's pretty much what I always thought about of California.  Sun, sand, waves, freedom.  Guess not.

If my 78 year old grandpa, who gave service to this country and is one of its most loyal supporters, can see that this (Prop 8) is wrong.  My grandfather! A church going conservative.  Then my question is this:

What kind of crack are half the voters in California smoking?

If I was a gay person in Cali right now, I'd have to agree with Melissa Etheridge:
"Okay, so I am taking that to mean I do not have to pay my state taxes because I am not a full citizen. I mean that would just be wrong, to make someone pay taxes and not give them the same rights, sounds sort of like that taxation without representation thing from the history books."- from Melissa Etheridge's blog.

TO CALIFORNIANS FOR PROP 8: Be careful what you wish for.  I think it is shooting yourself in the foot to deny liberties to a very large, influential population of your state.

But that's just me.  I'm from Ohio.  What do I know?

(I'll get down off my soap box now... but just one more thing: it's really not a question of gay rights vs. morality as everyone is making it to be.  It's the fact that a group of people that do not share the same opinions as a majority of this country just dictated the rights and future for another group.  And I think there is something fundamentally wrong with that.  The fabric of society will not unravel because two men can get married.  We do not live in a democracy, the people do not rule.  We live in a Republic and we elect people wiser than us to protect and represent those who need it.  That's what my grandfather, your grandfather, and others before us fought and still fight to protect.).

Election Night via Texts.

So, if you read my post from 4 years ago this week, you will know that I had quite the traumatic experience when Bush defeated Kerry.  Obviously, I'm more towards the Left but I'm posting this stuff for Rights, Lefts, Reds, and Blues alike to laugh at.  I don't want to impose political views on anyone.

Alanna, my BFF in the 313, was with me in '04 and we texted each other last night as it all went down.  Just thought I'd share so you can see the insanity.

Me: Dude, I can't help it.  NBC is on. Going out 4 smokes. Otherwise I will have no nails and gain 10lbs from compulsively eating.

Me: Shit shit shit. VA looking like McCain.  Indy too.

Alanna: Yeah, still avoiding it.

Me: It will suck you in man. Dont do it.

Alanna: My inner 'pre-2004 red sox fan' is coming out. I'm heading for the fetal position just in case.

Me: I don't have any beer.  I'm taking this one in sober. It's hard.

Alanna: Not gonna lie. Broke out the vodka.

Me: I have old wine. does that go bad?

Alanna: Not unless you believe Lucille Bluth (see Development, Arrested). I think you're a ok.

Me: it's a good night, i feel it. john did a 180. it was sunny. pville guy is acting nice. the stars are aligned.

Me: Fox news called ohio for obama. looks like we got it right this time.

Alanna: just read an article about a 114 year-old daughter of former slaves who got to vote for obama today. can't stop crying.

Me: (inexplicably and uncontrollably laughing) hahahahaha.  why am i laughing? what's wrong with  me?

Then there was convo about Keith Olbermann, Ben Affleck, me not understanding "Twilight" (is it like the harry potter?).

Then, I turned the tv off (@this point,  Obama had taken Pennsylvania and Ohio) .  And was falling asleep when:

Alanna: AHHHH!!

So I turned it on.  3 was on commercial. 4 commercial. 5 commercial.  The only station on was Telemundo.  SI!  Obama es el presidente! Si podemos!  Then I saw Jesse Jackson crying and Big Ops crying and people of ever color and religion and orientation coming together.

Like I said, it was a pretty good night. :)

Decision 08.

WINNER

While Americans were lining up to make their voices heard yesterday and making a decision that will affect every one of our lives for the next four years, I was making some decisions of my own about where to go from here.  It's time to move on, not only for the country, but me as well.

I sent John a very long apology and a good will message on MySpace.  I took the high road and said that I wished we could be friends.  It was a private message that I hope he respects as much as I do in not posting in.

After more angry words and more fighting, I finally just rolled over.  "I'm done.  I can't beat myself up about this and I can't let you do it to me anymore, either.  We have to move on."  He confessed to still having feelings for me that he doesn't know what to do with.  He really cares about this girl (FCOG) and if I want to be his best friend, then I have no other choice but to support that.  He wants to give it a chance.

So we talked about the things we used to talk about before this happened.  Tanning, drinking, stupid people, my  new phone.  He told me that SHE doesn't want him to talk to me.  I said that it was up to him and hopefully, one day, she can be secure enough that she would let me take them out for drinks as a peace offering.

"Keep your side of the street clean, Carly," my mom always says.  "It's the only thing you can do."

The night was made even better when PVille guy called and asked me how my day was going.  I vented to him about everything.  I apologized for being so mean to him so many times before because I was so used to three years of long, painful fights with John that everything would be new to me now.  I hung up the phone, smiling like an idiot and happy to have that new relationship "butterflies" feeling again (don't worry, there were some very inappropriate and borderline pornographic comments made too, so it wasn't all mushy).*

I went upstairs and watched Pennsylvania, my home state of Ohio, and Florida all turn blue on the map.  I was dozing off just as President-Elect took the stage in Grant Park and watched history write itself in front of me.  All in all, I think it was a pretty good night.

*Don't worry, for those who are thinking this is beginning to lack in childish actions.  I have a new guy and a new life ahead of me... there will be plenty of opportunities to screw it all up, I'm sure.  And when I do, I'll let you know.

I just had to include this from the "Alamo Diaries," a blog I had four years ago while attending Miami of Ohio in Oxford.  This was my post election day wrap-up after a devastating/awesome (we are not politically biased here) night.

Election Day Bug-a-loo.

"You told me you loved me
I know where and when
Come sunrise, surprise surprise
The joke's on me again
I know you don't love me
You know I don't care
Keep it hidden better
Did I say the world is fair
I thought I was just the guy for you and it would never end"

-The Magnetic Fields "I Thought You Were My Boyfriend"
(or, what John Kerry should have said in his concession speech today)

Well, the Devil has come to collect his price. Yep, after eighty-six years of selling our souls in Boston, the Prince of Darkness gets the last laugh. George W. Bush was once again crowned King of the Infidels last night. Can I get a "Ayayayayayayayayaya!!!!" from the guys in the turbans? No? Ok.

Well, at least I got drunk. How drunk? I'm not quite sure. Alanna and I went to Jake "the Shakes" Knight's humble abode for a little "Going Demo-craZy Bash '04" last night. Ok, it wasn't oficially called that, but I thought it was quite a clever name. Jake was super-hyper, but then again, if you know Jake you know this isn't anything out of the ordinary. Running around in a Pocahontas wig like an eight year old who had been kept up to late, we watched as he and a war-painted face Kerri performed interpretive dance to "I Thought You Were My Boyfriend" by The Magnetic Fields

I'll save the details of my demise, but included beer after beer after beer. Soon, when things got really bad, we turned to chain smoking. FYI, I do not condone smoking. It is bad for you. It kills people. HOWEVER there comes times in your life where ruining your lungs doesn't seem like such a bad idea when you're being faced with living the next four years of your life in complete uncertainty if you will get a job that hasn't been already outsourced while the rest of the world plans your country's demise.

But hey, at least Miami football won last night. Go team.

I woke up face down at about 11:00 am this morning. I looked out my window and realized the sky was gray. The thought of getting out of bed today was just too much, so I pulled the covers over my head until 1:00 pm. Pathetic, maybe. I just couldn't face the reality of my life in the next four years.

I saw an apparition of Satan in the soap scum on our shower curtain. It could have been a possible hallucination or just coincidence, but there he was as I washed my hair with John Frieda's Brilliant Brunette. Staring. Waiting.

I hear Toronto is lovely this time of year.

To quote Kristen (who I still love, even though she voted for Bush)...

"Meh."

Happy Election Day!

It's election day!!!  So for the 10 people or so that do read my lovely blog: if you have time to read this crap, you have time to vote.  So why are you still here?  Technically I actually voted early due to my location in a "battleground state" and knowing that the polls would be a madhouse tonight.  I won't say who I voted for-although you can tell by looking closely in this picture, just like I won't tell you who you should vote for.  Vote with your head, though, not with your heart (think about it).
